Transgender Hair Transplants

Let’s face it; the transgender topic has been a sensitive topic to touch on. Many businesses shy away from mentioning anything about it because they fear the backlash. Here at Varona Hair Restoration, we welcome everyone. We like to be as transparent as possible for many reasons. One of the main reasons is that we genuinely care about people and the state of the world in which we live.

It’s part of our mission to not only restore hair but to restore our clients’ confidence. As the saying goes, “looking good is feeling good.” Though there are many layers to that saying, looking good and being confident that you do go a long way.

How important is hair transplantation?

Hair transplantation is the “cherry on top” for many that have made a full transition. With hormones, hair transplantation will give one’s aesthetic an even more desirable look. Whether someone is transitioning from Male to Female or Female to Male, there are procedures to help align the external appearance with one’s gender identity.

Male to Female patients may suffer from male pattern baldness. Hair transplants can help feminize the patient’s appearance by restoring thick, healthy hair. Female to Male patients may find that even with prescribed hormones, they haven’t experienced the results they desire, especially the beard, mustache, and sideburn areas. With hair transplantation, they can now receive the look they desire. FUT and FUE are the best procedures in these cases. The procedures are minimally invasive, allowing for a smooth recovery.

What’s FUE and FUT?

With Male to Female (MTF) or Female to Male (FTM), the work is the same for transgender hair transplants. Depending on the goal and need, patients will undergo FUT or FUE procedures. Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) is where a small strip of tissue is removed from the back of the head; individual grafts are dissected and placed into the desired areas. Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is where hair grafts are extracted from the back of the head and then transplanted into areas where the hair is thinning. If a patient has a full, abundant donor area, they can expect better results when filling in thinning areas. If the donor area is limited, a strategy should be in place to effectively use the given donor area.

How can a hair transplant help?

Hair can be the critical component when striving to achieve an aesthetically beautiful look. Naturally, the hairlines of males and females differ. Typically a feminine hairline is lower than a masculine hairline. To feminize the face, doctors will lower the hairline. This lowering is dependent on the shape of the forehead and the position of the eyebrows. Sometimes the most overlooked part of feminization is the eyebrows. FUT or FUE procedures can help achieve a more defined and fuller eyebrow with a feminine arch.
